James Rogers wins the Northern Golf Masters 2026!
On June 21st, golfers from across the North travelled to Rockliffe Hall to participate in one of the region’s premier amateur golf tournaments.
Since 2012, the Northern Golf Masters has challenged the top club golfers to determine who is the number 1 amateur golfer in the North of England.
Hosted on Rockliffe Hall’s 18-hole golf course, renowned as one of the best in the UK, the tournament presents a true test of skill and determination.

This year's Northern Golf Masters concluded in fine style, with eight Rockliffe Hall members competing in a strong field of 60 of Yorkshire and Durham's leading amateur golfers.
Played from the demanding 7,231-yard Black Tees, favourable weather conditions allowed for some outstanding golf across both rounds. In the end, Rockliffe Hall member James Rogers held off a talented field with two composed performances to secure the title by a single stroke.
Rogers followed an excellent opening-round 71 with a steady 72 to finish on one-under-par (143), making him the only player in the 36-hole championship to finish under par. His consistency across both rounds proved enough to withstand a late charge from the chasing pack.
How the day ended...
As the final scores were coming in, it looked increasingly likely that the championship was heading for a four-man playoff. One of the standout performances came from Jake Benson of JCB Golf & Country Club, who bounced back from an opening-round 77 with a superb five-under-par 67 (the lowest round of the tournament) to climb the leaderboard and finish tied for second on level par (144).
Joining Benson in second place was Evan Oliver of Wearside Golf Club, whose impressive rounds of 75 and 69 also earned him a level-par total of 144.
Dominic Moon of Seaton Carew Golf Club claimed fourth place on one-over-par (145) after rounds of 74 and 71, while Jack Maxey of Hornsea Golf Club completed the top five on three-over-par (147). Maxey had shared the first-round lead with Rogers after an opening 71 but was unable to maintain the pace over the closing 18 holes.
With the tournament taking place on Father's Day, it was a fitting conclusion as James celebrated victory alongside his father and caddie, Mark Rogers, the Head PGA Professional at York Golf Club.
